Chef Roland Pfaff

Born May,1957, a native of Alsace, France; I was only 14 when I began my apprenticeship in Strasbourg.  Our rich culinary heritage gave me a passport to an incredible culinary journey throughout the world.  During my travels, I met my wife Susie who brought me to Canada in 1983.  Passionate for the outdoors, we made Whistler our home in 1989 and opened the Val d’Isère Restaurant.

Chef Roland’s innovative approach to cooking  has been well recognized;  “best in Whistler”  -Vancouver Magazine; “an absolute must for the best French cooking in BC” - Vancouver Best Places.

Whistler Cooking School

My goal is to be a confident adult educator who helps people through the complex process of mastering new knowledge, skills and attitudes, I attended Vancouver Community College's P.I.D. Program. The Provincial Instructor Diploma (P.I.D) Program provided me with the competencies needed to design, manage and evaluate the instruction of adult education.
